Swanston Library Transformation

From October 2015 the library will undergo a major upgrade as part of the New Academic Street project. More information about the works can be viewed at the Swanston Library Transformation webpage (which should be live soon).

Some of the main points that will affect the School of Architecture and Design are:

The collection
From June 2015, the library will be consolidating and moving the collections. Most of the art, architecture and design collection will remain in the library. The library has analysed browsing and borrowing habits of the collection, and, as this section is regularly used by staff and students, it is important to keep on-site.

Most art, architecture and design print journals will also remain on-site. Some journals will be moved to storage - however, those that will be moved are also available online.

Items in storage can be borrowed by placing a hold request and will delivered within 24 hours (Monday to Friday). Items in storage that need to be accessed regularly can be returned to the Swanston library at any time.

Items in the Reserve collection and on course reading lists will remain on shelf at the Swanston library (if you have course reading lists or there are specific books you would like available, please forward them to Mary or Tristan).

Study space
There will be no reduction in the number of study spaces for students during the works.

Events/Exhibitions
In August and September 2015 the Library would like celebrate our arts, architecture and design collections with a program of events and exhibitions of staff and student work. More information about this will be available soon. If you have ideas for work that could be displayed in the library - e.g., images, models - please contact us.

Please contact Tristan or Mary if you have any questions.
