Changes to digital collections

This announcement will be most relevant to people who have links to online content for courses such as digitised book chapters and articles, online videos and images.

The library is making changes to the way the Learning Repository, which contains RMIT created and licensed works, is hosted. The Learning Repository will not be accessible after 20 December. Links will not work, and files cannot be uploaded.

What is happening to the content?
Content previously on the Learning Repository has been migrated to the Digital Collections Repository. Browse the digital collections or use Library Search to find a specific item.

If you’re looking for RMIT images to use, they can now be found in the Digital Collection Repository.

What do I need to do?
If you haven't already done so for 2018 check your eReserve (online readings links). Consider enabling reading lists in Canvas, and discover how easy it is to manage and keep links to your readings current.

If you would like us to activate a new link for you to put in Canvas please let us know by 10 December.

If you use online video from the video collection you will need to update your links to the new location for the collection.

If you discover your links are not working email: eReserve.library@rmit.edu.au

Google, Shmoogle. Reference Librarians Are Busier Than Ever

From the Wall Street Journal:

"Even in the internet age, reference librarians still dig up answers that require extra effort, searching old books, microfilm and paper files, looking for everything from owners of long-defunct firms to 19th-century weather reports. Though online searches are now at the fingertips of most people, many still prefer to call or visit a library. Some can’t or don’t use computers; others recognize librarians have search skills and access to databases that search engines can’t match."

This article is behind a paywall but lucky for RMIT staff and students - the Library has a sub to the Wall Street Journal. Read the full article online.

Student user experience study of library subject guides

Students: participate in a user experience study of our Library subject guides.

Subject guides include recommended resources collected by our dedicated liaison librarians and we want to redesign these guides in partnership with you. By participating in this study, you will be able to influence the design of future guides that will help students study/research easier and quicker and, ultimately, get better marks with less effort.

Step 1: If you are willing to participate please fill out this short online survey on your university study information seeking habits. It should take no more than 15 minutes to complete.

Step 2: On completion of the online survey you may be invited to take part in an individual consultation, no longer than 80 minutes, to be arranged at a time convenient to you. A plain language statement and consent form will outline activities occurring during the individual consultation. Participants will receive a $25 Coles/Myer voucher for this consultation.

Thanks for your time, we appreciate your feedback.
